Most pest control operators know their chemical cost per stop to the penny, but the cost of getting the truck to the driveway is usually a guess. Fuel, tires, oil changes, depreciation and the technician's paid time behind the wheel all add up, and they land on every stop whether it is a $45 quarterly visit or a $600 termite job. If you do not know that number, it is hard to tell whether a route across town is worth keeping or whether a tighter route would pay for itself.

This calculator takes the numbers you already have (miles driven, fuel cost per mile, a per-mile wear allowance, the technician's loaded hourly rate and the hours spent driving) and adds them into a daily route cost. It then divides that by the number of stops to give you a cost per stop and a cost per mile. It does not estimate revenue, on-site labor or chemical cost; it isolates the cost of moving between stops so you can see how much routing alone is eating.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter a typical day for one truck: stops completed, miles on the odometer and hours spent driving between stops.
  2. Enter the truck's fuel cost per mile (fuel price divided by real-world mpg) and a per-mile allowance for wear and depreciation from your own records.
  3. Enter the technician's loaded hourly cost, then read the cost per stop and cost per mile and compare them against what those stops bring in.

What the math assumes

  • Fuel cost is miles driven multiplied by the fuel cost per mile you enter (fuel price divided by mpg); it does not add idling or air conditioning load.
  • Maintenance and depreciation are treated as a flat amount per mile that you set; the default of $0.15 per mile is a placeholder, not an industry figure.
  • Driving labor is the hours you enter times the loaded hourly cost; on-site labor, chemicals and equipment are deliberately left out.
  • Every stop on the route is given an equal share of the daily route cost, even if some stops are much farther apart than others.
  • All figures are per truck per day; multiply by working days or trucks yourself for a monthly or fleet total.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator count the technician's driving time as a route cost?

Because you pay for it. A technician earning a loaded $24 an hour who drives two and a half hours a day costs $60 in wages before a single treatment is applied. Leaving that out makes long routes look cheaper than they are.

What should I put for maintenance and depreciation per mile?

Take last year's repair, tire and oil bills for the truck, add the drop in its resale value over the year, and divide by miles driven. If you do not have that, start with the default and tighten it once you have a few months of records.

How do I use the cost per stop number?

Compare it with the price of your lowest-value recurring visit. If routing alone eats a big share of that visit price, the fix is usually denser routes or a minimum price for out-of-area stops, not a fuel surcharge.
